Nancy Roob (Edna McConnell Clark Foundation)People who come from low income backgrounds, especially between the age group of 9 to 24 are highly vulnerable as their chances of receiving even the primary of education becomes impossible. Educational skills are not all about being educated. They are more about putting these skills to good use. Skills are useful for building a secure and proper future and this is where the Edna McConnell Clark Foundation comes to good use for young people who belong to the lower privileged backgrounds. The foundation has been active for a long while to ensure that not only do they receive education but they can put it to good use.

Self -sufficiency is one of the most important things to learn and we all learn its importance from our parents. Children who are homeless or have grown up in orphanages often miss out on learning about the importance of self-sufficiency and how they can utilize their education to ensure maximum self-sufficiency and find jobs for themselves. They mostly lack in motivation and purpose as unlike most people, they are not brought up in an environment where the importance is stressed upon these things. So the foundation teaches them how living with dignity is what they deserve and how they can utilize their education to learn.

Young people from low income backgrounds are not always looked after by their parents as are kids who belong to moderate or high income backgrounds. As a result, a number of these kids become prone to substance abuse, teenage pregnancies and illegal activities which could land them in prison and destroy the rest of their lives. The Edna McConnell Clark Foundation has done a lot to ensure that these kids are aware of the risks all these activities pose and ensure that none of these become a hindrance to the wonderful life the foundation is trying to create for them. It is because of countless efforts by Nancy Roob (Edna McConnell Clark Foundation), President and CEO of the foundation that hundreds of such dreams have been realized.

One of the major successes of the foundation has been getting grants for its good causes and together with continuous effort, it has managed to secure an amount of $279 million along with public and private funding. This is a proof that how one woman’s continuous efforts can yield significant results as the foundation today has enough funds to ensure that the lives of underprivileged children are changed for the better.
